How do I back my iPhone onto my MacBook Air? iPhone does not appear on either finder or music for backup

If your Mac runs Catalina, Big Sur or Monterey open Finder.


  • If you don’t see the sidebar on the left go to Finder/Preferences/sidebar and make sure all items are checked.
  • Connect your iPhone with a USB cable
  • Look under Locations in the sidebar and you should see your iPhone
  • Click on it and wait for it to load - it can take a couple of minutes the first time.


If it runs any other version if Mac OS open iTunes; you should see an iPhone icon just below the top bar.
