IPad app location on the screen in portrait vs landscape

I put all my apps in alphabetical order on my iPad when holding it in landscape mode. When I rotate iPad to portrait (90° roatation) the apps are no longer in alphabetical order. Is there a way to fix this?

2018 iPad

iPad OS 15.4.1

Especially the use of widgets will alter what comes up next to what when changing orientation.

Use widgets on your iPad - Apple Support

Pick an orientation you use more often and arrange things as you like using that orientation.
