my Mac does not have "devices"in the sidebar

I am trying to upload photos from my I phone

to my mac. but the photo app does not have "devices" in the sidebar

downloading from the photos app to the Mac Is there an easy way to download photos from the Photos app to my Mac? I can't believe this is so hard for me to figure out. I wanted to access my Photos when a third party site asked for an upload of a photo, but nope, can't get it from the Photos app, so I go to the Photos app to download it and I can't find a method there, at least not one that is obvious.

Photos not working on Mac Long story, I'll try to be brief. I recently switched back to an iPhone 12 after having a couple of Pixels... All my photos from the Pixel phone were shared vis Google Photos and Google photos on the Mac. So instead of having Google photos and Apple Photos I just decided to go with the native application. Photos are sharing fine on my iPad, Macbook and phone but not on my iMac, I did have a really old iPhoto library on an external drive which I then sent them all to Lightroom. Now I cannot open Photos (no library) nor can I select Photos in the iCloud section of preferences. How can I get my phone photos on to the Photos app on the iMac. Works fine everywhere else! Also, Messages doesn't work (sync), neither does Contacts. But that's another problem but probably related. Thanks in advance!

It should appear when your phone is connected via USB. If it doesn't make sure you are using an original apple cable, and are plugged directly into the computer (not a hub)

In the Finder/Preferences/Sidebar pane make sure all of the Locations checkboxes are checked:

Actually, I'd start out with all of them being checked then uncheck those that you don't need.
