e-mail notification from apple

Question

I have received an email from "Apple ID" saying that my Apple ID has been locked today.

It was kind of odd to receive this message because I haven't done anything to use my apple ID or account.

Please, advise how to verify if this email was actually legitimate message from Apple or one of those phishing scam.

It's fake. Forward it to reportphishing@apple.com as an attachment and then delete it.

If an Apple ID actually gets locked or disabled, its owner will be told when they try logging into it instead of through email.
