can not open document on my mac

can not open document on my mac

i see ALL my info in finder - word, excel, pdfs and jpegs. NOTHING will open.

been trying all kinds of things with NO error message.

this all started when i was cleaning up a 'copy' of my documents and then tried to rename the file

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.0

talked to support - cleaned up a few things, rebooted and all works

i notice if i start a new word doc (for example) and save it under a different folder than the one with all my data (documents) the file is save and can open -
