What to do when my new MacBook Pro doesn’t see my old MacBook Pro.

What could the reason be for my new MacBook Pro not seeing my old MacBook Pro when they are both showing as connected to the same network and my having followed the recommended steps in use of Migration Assistant up to the stage where I was expecting the MBP image to show up in the middle of the window?

What year is your older MacBook Pro?

And what chip is your new MacBook Pro using? Intel or Apple Silicone (M1)

i am about to buy a new MBP. THE OLD MBP was a 2012 and finally died. I wanted to restore from this mbp but it is not listed as an active device. Why would it, it died. So when i get my MBP and sign into my account, and asked what i want to do, will it find the last backup for that computer?
