Auto brightness on Mac

Hi, do you know how auto brightness on Mac works when you adjust it manually? Let me explain. I have auto brightness turned on. I was wondering what will happen if I adjust it manually - when will it go back to auto setting? Will it treat my adjustment as a min or max level of brightness or will it reset it?

Example: I’m in dark room. Auto brightness dim display but I manually make make it maximally bright. Will it always be so bright in dark rooms or will it go back to brightness before manual adjustment?
