I upgraded to Monterey and now excel spreadsheets appear upside down and there are strange fonts strewn throughout the text. I am running Microsoft Office version 15.32 on a MacBook Pro that is listed as upgradable to Monterey. Is there a fix for this or do I need to purchase a newer version of Microsoft Office?

You need to update excel. The behavior you describe is a known problem with some versions that are too old.
