Airtag won’t appear in “find my” app

I’ve connected my airtag to my apple id, but it is not showing up in the “find my” app. I have tried turning my phone on and off as well as resetting and reconnecting the airtag. My phone has all location and “find my” permissions turned on.

any ideas on the next thing to try?
