Time Machine has stopped working

Hello.

Time Machine has stopped working. It shows " preparing backup" is all it now does.

Is there a fix for this?

Time Machine will not work - I have tried restarting, trying a brand new backup disk, leaving iMac running for days, etc but nothing happens. It has set up a file but is still in progress and last modified more than 24 hours ago.

Time machine is stuck preparing backup Time machine is stuck preparing backup. It went immediately to that when I started the backup., with the progress bar solid blue and the words "preparing backup" underneath it. I tried stopping the backup, deleting the "In progress" file, and restarting. But the same thing happened after the restart.

Time Machine has stopped working May 2022 I have TimeMachine disks for 2 Apple Silicon Macs [a macmini and a 14" macbook pro]. In the last couple of days both TimeMachine backups failed [supposedly due to lack of space] and the Time Machine Backups themselves have disappeared. Why?

If you have reason to believe TM will remain in the "Preparing" stage forever, read If you can't back up or restore your Mac using Time Machine - Apple Support.
