Apple TV remote stopped working

My Apple TV remote has stopped working this week … it has always controlled my tv and Apple TV perfectly. I have not changed anything, but maybe there was an update? Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you!! So I had brought out some weights used with my Apple fitness… apparently I was blocking the receptor. Which is weird because the volume using the tv remote still worked and all the other Apple remote functions so it never dawned on me that it was the weights in front of the tv!! Thank you for solving my mystery!

It's likely that your remote needs a reset and then to be freshly paired to your ATV. Or it needs recharging :-).

Please detail you audio system. Do you use the TV’s built-in speakers, or something else?

Does the remote have line-of-sight to the TV’s IR receptor? Unlike the navigation commands, volume control signals will often* be send via IR to the TV or receiver directly.

*some exceptions apply depending on audio system.

Thanks. Re reading my comment I should have said my remote stopped controlling the volume only. Every other function works just not the volume anymore. I can see the light on the Apple TV blink when I press volume up or down it just doesn’t actually adjust the sound. Frustrating. Any other ideas? 🤷🏼‍♀️
