Preview no longer previewing (when you tap space on a file)

Before, when I tapped space, Preview showed a complete "preview" of the image/pdf/etc. Now, it just shows file details (see attached image) instead a full image.

When I restart the mac, it works for a short while before it stops previewing. What can be done?

A couple things to try…

  1. Relaunch the Finder by control clicking on its icon in the Dock.
  2. Boot into Safe Mode then restart normally.
