How to update my MacBook Air so that I can download apps on the App Store?

I don't understand how to update my software, and it is saying I cannot download any apps off of the App Store because I do not have MacOS 10.15 or newer

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.12

You need at least a mid-2012 MacBook Air to upgrade to Catalina 10.15.7.
