how do I clean up my MacBook so I have enough room to add the latest update

I don't have enough room to download the latest macOS High Sierra. Can I delete some application or previous macOS programs to have enough room. My MacBook Pro is a late 2015.

Now I almost have enough storage to download the latest update but I had put on the HD. Now it won't let me download the

Monterray. How do I get the HD off now? Thank you so much!
