What to do when iPhone overheats

As most people know it's bad for any electronic device to overheat.

But when an overheating does occur, should I have my iPhone cool down quickly or slowly? Does it damage the phone when having it cool down too fast? And if so, what is 'too fast'?

iPhone X, iOS 15

If your phone warms unreasonably, stop using it, remove the case from your phone and keep your phone away from any source of heat.
