iMessage/text messages on mac

how do I mark all my imessages on my mac as read? I have over 1500 unread because they didn't previously sync. I only have 2 unread on my iPhone. I've switched my phone a year ago so maybe that has something to do with it? No way to select all and mark read?

I've signed out of iCloud messages, quit messages and re logged in. That didn't work.

Give it a Day:

Having re-logged in, importing them will take some time. So, give it a day to all sync. Try it overnight, while you're not using your devices at hand.

How to Mark All Messages as Read:

Seems I may have misunderstood. This is how they show up, then they arrive in your mailbox. So, what to do:

Three Methods, Depending on your iOS Version:

A. Directly in the Messages app:

  1. Open: the Messages app
  2. Tap: the Edit button (in the corner)
  3. Tap: on “Read All” in the very bottom

B. Mark All Text Messages as Read on iPhone on iOS 14

  1. Open: the Messages app
  2. Click: the three encircled dots at the top right=corner of screen
  3. Tap: "Select Messages."
  4. Tap: Read All at the bottom.

C. Disable App Icon Badges for Messages

  1. Open: Settings
  2. Tap: Notifications
  3. Tap: Messages.
  4. Toggle: Badges so that it is greyed-out.

Hey there!

Good question!

I know you’ve changed iPhones. However if you are using the same Apple ID on all devices and have iCloud Messages enabled on all, they should be syncing, (Given enough time as mentioned).

Can you check both your phone and Mac?

iPhone:

Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Messages.

Mac:

Messages (On the top) > Preferences > iMessage.

Just to make sure iCloud is turned on for both?

For the Mac you’ll see a check box to “Enable Messages in iCloud” on the phone, you should can switch iCloud Messages on or off.

Otherwise if you don’t use Messages with iCloud, or use more than one Apple ID, then you may have to try something else, as suggested.

If you don’t, also make sure Text Message Forwarding is on for your Mac in Settings > Messages, and of course that you’re signed in on both with the same Apple ID and have the same settings configured.

Hope something here helps!
