Old iMac as External Monitor

Hi. Can an iMac 2007 be used as an external monitor with a MacBook Pro 2011 with a mini displayport to mini displayport cable (in the MacBook's Thunderbolt port)? Thanks.

Trying to use iMac as a monitor for a Windows laptop Is there a way of taking an HDMI or DisplayPort output from a Windows 10 laptop and connecting it to a thunderbolt input on a 2011 iMac to enable me to use the iMac as a monitor? The thunderbolt port does not appear to work with a mini display port input cable (even though it fits) - can I get an adapter so that the iMac thinks it is a thunderbolt type input?

If the two Macs meet the requirements in this Apple document, Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support, and are running the required systems then it can be used as a monitor.
