Win 10 migration to brand new M1 Pro MBP 14"

I am trying...

I've been a windows person since 3.1 and finally decided to make the switch to Apple. Problems!

Using 12.2.2 and downloaded the appropriate migration program. Installed it and BAM "an error occurred while preparing your information for transfer." OK, delete 2.4.0.0 and download 2.3.1.0 which is for the previous version of Mac OS. It will almost work because it gets farther than 2.4.0.0, but not quite because it is not the latest version (2.4.0.0) of Mac OS.

I really, really want this computer to work, but after a week, I'm not making the progress I think I should, and it's frustrating me. All I really want to do is transfer all my files from Win 10 to Mac. I've been thinking about Genius Bar but that's 45 miles away. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Help!

Only 45 miles, lucky you! ;)

Anyways, welcome to the Apple family! To better understand where you are having difficulty with migrating your data from your Windows PC to your new M1 Mac, at which of the following points in the migration process does it fail:

  1. Downloading and installing the latest version of Apple's Windows Migration Assistant (WMA)?
  2. Running the WMA on your Windows PC?
  3. Running Migration Assistant (MA) on your M1 Mac?
  4. With both versions of Migration Assistant running, getting both devices to "see" each other on the same local network? If not, did you verify that "Network Discovery" is enabled on the Windows PC?
  5. When running the MA on the Mac did it discover the WMA running on the PC?
  6. If it discovered it, did a code show up on the Mac, and then, the same code appear on the PC?
  7. Did you get a list of what to transfer from the PC on the Mac?
  8. After selecting what you want transferred, and selecting continue, did the transfer proceed?
  9. Did the transfer complete successfully?

Just an observation. The current Monterey release is v12.2.1, not 12.2.2. Are you attempting transfer on the same network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet using a USB-C to Gigabit adapter?

Shut off any firewalls, or anti-virus software on Windows and on macOS (if installed there too). Review the following: Move your data from a Windows PC to a Mac, and use that v2.4.0.0 version again.

If it still does not work, I suggest that you schedule an appointment with the Apple Genius bar, even if it is 45 miles away.

Only 45 miles? I never looked at it that way, but you're right, that is pretty close. Thank you for responding so quickly.

Rather than trying to get the migration software to work, I'm just going to use my time copying everything over on a USB drive. It's a little slow putting stuff on it from the Win computer, but when you plug that USB drive into the Mac, it's amazing how incredibly fast stuff transfers. Again, thanks for your responses.
