What adapter do I need to connect USB A external hard drive to thunderbolt ports on Mac mini m-1?

What you really need is a USB-A to USB-C adaptor, because a USB-C port is also a Thunderbolt-3 (or 4) port on later Mac models.I own this and it works fine with an iPad Pro, or any Mac with a USB-C/Thunderbolt-3 port. Works on my 2021 MBP M1 Pro.
For more money, Apple sells a USB-A to USB-C cable.
