What do I need to do to connect the external drive from my od mac to a new one

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

Depends what your external drive port is. If it is a USB-A and you want to connect it to a Mac with a USBC port you need a USB-A to USBC adapter.

No,I have the drive that I removed form a MacBook pro 15 inch with usbc connector. I bought a new mackbookpro 14 M1, and want to connect that external drive to that one also using a usbc. So I suppose i have to erase the drive in order to connect to the new computer.
