USB hard drive seen as two separate drives when is one

I am trying to re-format a LaCie external hard drive that was originally set up where the Mac OS "sees" the drive as two separate volumes. One is 800 GB, the other is 200 GB. I want to format it now so that the OS sees it as a simple HD of 1 TB volume. When I use the Apple Disk Utility, it shows 2 external HD. I do not see any options to completely delete one or combine the two into one.

Click on the View button and select Show all Devices.

Select the one device with the two volumes below it. Erase that.

I used the Apple Disk Utility to erase both volumes. but it still shows as two separate external physical volumes. Here is a screen shot of the disk utility window. "LaCie" is the 800 GB drive. "LaCie200" is the 200 GB. But both are just the single physical LaCie external hard drive that I want my computer to simply recognize as one hard drive.
