Can't get my CD to read and load into itunes, what should I check?

A fully finalised Audio CD or a data CD with audio files on it? They are not the same thing.
Any commercially produced CD that I attempt to load into my library. This is a recent hiccup in the system, I have loaded hundreds of others onto my system so I am unsure what has occurred.
As optical drives age the tracking mechanism can start to have trouble keeping locked on. Try the same discs in another machine. I would suspect the drive has had it.
