usb-c on thunderbolt 3

Hello, I have an iMac (2019, 27", 5K) with 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Can I use this port to connect an USB-C external SSD.

And if not, how can I connect this SSD to obtain the highest possible transfer rate?

I also have 4 USB-3 ports on this iMac to which I could connect the SSD, but then I don't get the highest transfer rates. Can somebody help me with this issue?

Yes, the TB port is compatible with any USB SSD however if you want the max speeds you will need a TB drive. The standard SSD speed will be the same on the TB port and the USB3 port. I use NVME drive in a TB enclosure connected to my 2019 iMac TB port for highest speeds.
