When Saving From an App I get a Double Extension Type

Using Photoshop or Illustrator or pretty much any other app I find that when I save I get this issue that's been happening as far back as the last two OSXs.

I made a Loom for Adobe, but I have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting technical assistance from them. And besides, it seems like it's a finder issue anyway.

Has anyone come across this issue? Why also when I save does finder highlight it all? It used to highlight just the file name so you could change it quickly. Now it also grabs the extension type.

Thanks

macOS likes to hide file extensions from users which makes things very complicated especially since the behavior of the more recent versions of macOS has changed a bit in this regard. Most times if you add a file extension as you are saving the file, macOS will usually alert you that the file already has a file extension and will ask if you want to keep both file extensions or revert to the original/default file extension.

When saving the file, you need to see if you can uncheck the "Hide Extension" option located on one of the special drop down menus in the "Save As...." dialog box. This will reveal the hidden file extension the app may be applying to the file you are saving. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any way to keep this setting active all the time for every app. Some apps may retain this setting "Hide Extension" the next time you save a file in that particular app, but many apps will default to having that setting checked each & every time which is extremely aggravating as I want to make sure my files have the correct file extension. Thank you for the response. Mine was way different then this. I had to actually go into finder preference and then Advance and uncheck Show all filename extensions.

While I did do this the files that were saved in different directories still showed their file extensions which is good, and when saving, but the issue went away from duplicating. So that's good.

Thanks again. Appreciate it.
