GPS and Cellular apple watch

Im looking to get the new apple watch but if I purchase the GPS + cellular version do I HAVE to set up the cellular connection or can I just use it as the GPS version? just asking because as of now I can not afford the extra $10 or 15 a month for cellular but in the future I will want that feature but I dont want to have to buy another watch
