How to keep files in icloud drive to save space on macbook harddrive?
What setting do you set on files so they are saved in icloud but deleted from local hard drive on my macbook?

The best that you can do is opt to optimize Mac storage at System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud. If space is needed the files will then be offloaded to iCloud only.
iCloud is primarily a synchronization service, not offline storage.
