Apply Cash Family

My child is 16, has a $0 Apple Cash balance, and has Apple Cash turned off. When I try to enable Apple Cash for her, I get a message saying she already has it enabled. When she tries to re-enable it, she gets a message saying she does not meet the age requirements. She has iOS 14 and I have iOS 15. I have seen articles advising to close her accounts, disable, and then re-add but she had a $0 balance. I can’t figure this one out.

To set up Apple Cash Family you must first close any accounts that children already had. Make sure that the balance is zero then go here - Manage your Apple Cash account - Apple Support next, go here - Set up and use Apple Cash Family. (Additional support links View and limit your child or teen's Apple Cash activity, Leave Apple Cash Family, Apple Cash and person to person payments limits)

Hello. Thanks for this info. Problem persists, however. After following the helpful links I still see that the child’s account has no balance and there is no option from my end to take any additional action on the child’s account.

I asked the child to reopen her account to double-confirm there is no balance but now she’s receiving a message that she is not authorized to re-open because of the age requirement.

If she closed the account (not just turned it off) you should now be able to set up Apple Cash family on your device by adding it to family sharing. On your device go to settings>Apple ID (your name at the top>Family sharing>look for Apple Cash and select that>now you should be able to see two links. One is for creating an Apple ID and one is for child with an Apple ID. Select "child already has an account" and follow the instructions.
