The only currently supported products from Microsoft on Big Sur are the subscription Microsoft 365, or your choice of the single purchase Office 2019 for Mac, or Office 2021 for Mac. The long-retired Office 2008/2011 for Mac products are 32-bit applications that are not supported on the 64-bit only Catalina, Big Sur, and Monterey.
The older documents are not affected by the 64-bit restriction.
