Safari could not download the file “Unknown” because the disk doesn’t have enough free space. I keep getting this message when I download from Safari, but I have more than plenty space. Anyone has solutions?

I had the same problem after doing a restore from time machine. After checking my computer for updates I found that in addition to the suggestion to update to the new Mac OS, there was also "another update available" (displayed as a link in blue text) which was for Safari 15.2.

After installing the Safari update, internet downloads are working again for me.

I would ask how big is the file you are attempting to download? Then, exactly how much free HD space do you have? For an accurate reading it is best to use Disk Utility to check. Saying you have plenty of space is not very useful information for us.

Try checking Safari > Preferences > Websites > Downloads > Allow or Ask (ie: make are it is not set to Deny)

I am trying to download a file and am getting : this message "Safari could not download the file “[file name]” because the disk doesn’t have enough free space". This happens with ANY kind of file. My volume has 400 GB of available space. I ran disk utility to check for possible problems with permissions.

Have never seen this.

How big is the file you are attempting to download?

I have this question too. This issue started for me after removing OS Monterey and reinstalling Big Sur and doing a restore from Time Machine. My user permissions are correctly set to read & write.
