Apple Watch connectivity

If I have an Apple Watch SE and I have an iPhone SE (2016) connected together, what happened when the iPhone will no longer have a update (iOS)? Does it will no longer be compatible with the Apple Watch?

It will keep on working,it just means that you won't be able to get any more phone/watch updates.
