I'm trying to download iTunes for my mac but it does not alllow me to.

See If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support. You would use Finder in Catalina or later to manage the device instead of iTunes.

iTunes was discontinued for Macs years ago. It was replaced by the Music, TV and Podcast apps. They are installed as part of the OS.

Thanks for the information but I have an iPhone 7+ Which says on the screen “connect to iTunes to open” so what should I do in that case?
