apparently, we can no longer use "hey Siri" to utilize carplay features?

I've noticed it's not working, and the latest article on iOS 15 indicates there are 2 ways to initiate Siri during carplay, and both consist of pushing buttons on the vehicle steering column or display. Nothing about just saying "hey Siri" like we used to.
