On restart a blue screen with white frame appears before the Apple logo then overlays everything on the screen during normal operation. Everything appears to be working but the overlay is always visible.
If the issue does not go away, or if it returns, this signifies a hardware issue, and Apple must service it. Get started by finding a nearby Apple Store, Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple, then schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar: Get Support.
If there is no Apple Store near you, then see if an Apple Authorized Service Provider is: Get Support.

If it is gradually clearing up. Then I would suspect condensation, if it is cold and you had the heat off while you were away.
You're welcome. Yea' I've seen quit a few cases where cold and high humidity caused a foggy display panel. It's probable a good idea to fully shutdown the iMac the next time you turn off the central heat and go away for a few days in the winter.

Hey. Thanks. Could be. It might have gotten all the way down to high 50s here in San Diego, but if that’s enough it might explain it. But it seems to have corrected now that we’re back to 70.
Is that iPad in the foreground tethered to the iMac?
If it is, try disconnecting it to see if that fixes the problem.
