Two iTunes questions, any expert here?

1) What might cause some songs to get duplicated under the same album in iTunes on PC?

2) And when you see a cloud with exclamation icon next to the song's name indicating an error, what might the cause be?

Thanks!

  1. Typically adding the same song more than once from a location outside the media folder when iTunes is set up to create copies inside the media folder. See Duplicate songs in iTunes - Apple Community.
  2. See Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC - Apple Support.

Will (Edit > Preferences > Devices > Reset Sync History) erase older tracks that previously synced successfully? This is because I’m afraid to lose what’s already synced successfully in the past. The dotted-circles are only shown for voice memos.

Basically, iPhone stopped syncing its voice memos to PC since September. It think issue started after the iOS 15 upgrade. ITunes version 12.12.2.2. Windows 10 up to date.

I'm pretty sure that resetting sync history doesn't actually remove anything, but forces iTunes to compare the local library with the device and copy over anything in the current sync selection that isn't there. I'd liken it to clearing your web cache. That said I don't have access to the code, so I'm making some assumptions.

I'm not entirely certain what the deal is with voice memos. They used to sync with iTunes, but I'm pretty sure Apple switched them into a cloud only feature, although it might be one of those legacy things that only changed if you agreed to a prompt at some point. I know mine go via the cloud and sync to the voice memos app on my Mac. I'd have to check exactly what happens on Windows. I guess what matters is do you have copies of the files on your computer, and do the ones on the phone work? If there is anything important do you at least have a backup.
