When using airplay from MacBook to tv, I have audio but no video. I can mirror with no problem, but as soon as I pick a video and hit play, the screen in black with just audio.

Ok, just to be clear streaming and mirroring, although seem similar, work differently.
When mirroring, as you know, your Mac will send its screen to your AirPlay-enabled TV. However, when you open an app to play a video from that same Mac, the Mac "switches" to using AirPlay streaming which will not allow protected content to be displayed on that stream. This is what Rudegar is referring to.

Yes. Catalina on my notebook. Streaming a show from Paramount Plus and the video & audio is playing fine. I hit mirroring on air play to send to a Vizio airplay enabled tv. Everything is fine with the sound but the screen goes black on the notebook, and since mirrored, tv also.
I can stream the exact same show using my iPhone 12 airplay to TV with no problem it’s just whenever I stream using airplay from my MacBook to the TV that I get only audio and no video.
Ok. Thank you for the explanation. I thought I was missing a step since I am able to air play the exact same video to my tv when watching on my iPhone 12.
