mail on computer
the mail app on my computer keeps crashing and I cannot get my mail or to the folders my mac is 10.11.6

Try restarting in Safe Mode - immediately at restart hold the SHIFT key until the Apple Logo appears and then release the key.
The loading up of the OS will be slow - normal, as it is doing a Repair Disk, clearing cache files and only loading Apple Software, extensions and fonts.
sEt if Apple Mail will function.
To exit Safe Mode, just restart the computer normally.
