My apple TV has dropped a number of apps, how can I get them back?

Apple TV (3rd generation) gets its app pushed server side. There is no App Store function to add apps on that model.

When YouTube decided to no longer support the 3rd generation model, then the app was removed, as it wouldn’t work anyway anymore. Older Apple TV will require AirPlay for YouTube video playback starting March 3, 2021 - 9to5Mac

NHL was available for Apple TV (3rd generation or later) for a long time. But likewise, support was dropped for the 3rd generation model, per September 1, 2021.

Several other content providers also dropped supported in October.
