I just bought a new 14 inch MacBook Pro, am running Monterey version 12.0.1, and this morning I noticed a problem with Mail. When composing an email, every time I type the word I'm, Mail autocorrects it to Im. I have no idea why it thinks Im is a word and I'm isn't, but no matter how many times I retype it, it does that same thing over and over -- I'm becomes Im. Can someone tell me how to fix this?

I may wind up having to do this. It would probably solve the problem -- I've done this trick on my iPhone for other words before. I wish I could find out how to fix it, though, because then it would have smart quotes turned on.
My MacBook is very new. Today is the first day I ever composed an email on it. So, it came like this out of the box. I certainly didn't fiddle with any settings. Possibly the migration assistant did something, but I don't recall having any substitutions or anything on my old laptop.
Oh. I am very sorry that I don't have a solution for this. I think you should wind up for the solution by lllaass. Maybe you could go to the nearest Apple repair shop and ask them to help, if Smart Quotes really distracts you.
Try going to System Preferencs>Keyboard>Text and add Replace "I'm" With "I'm".

'I'm' should work just as fine as other English elisions.
But what you could try to do is to right-click on the uncorrected 'I'm' then click on Add to Dictionary.
Hmm. I right-clicked, but Add to Dictionary didn't come up as an option. I also searched for that option in the help menu at the top of the screen, and that option didn't come up.
One question I want to ask you is, did your computer always correct I'm into Im, or did it happen all of the sudden on a random day?
I don't think the Smart Quotes are that important. I'll probably just do the substitution trick. But thank you very much for your time and effort on this. I appreciate your trying to help me.
