How does Apple Watch with Family Setup work for kids if one parent has an android?

I’m interested in apple watches using family sharing for my two sons still too young for their own phones. I love the idea of being able to call and track location. I have an iPhone for set up, but my husband uses an android. Would he still be able to see location and get GPS notifications?
