Pages app wont working on new iphone 13 pro max

Is it Pages v11.2 for iOS on iOS 15.1.1?

I noticed that when I attempt to select a template that Pages just quietly quits. Even when it is set to write new files to local storage. If instead, I choose Start Writing instead, then it works and a blank document appears. When I set Pages to use iCloud Drive instead of Local storage, launching the application tells me that I have to select the storage destination. Pages for iPadOS is not this dumb and just works.
