Music Library Media files have disappeared

I'm using Mac OS 11.6.1 Big Sur and all my music shows up in the Music App but the actual files do not show up on my external hard drive. They should be under Media but are not.

I know the files exist because I can play the songs and see all the files in the app. Where did the actual music files go?

Music app on my Mac can no longer find my music files I recently replaced my SSD on my mid 2015 Macbook Pro and did a restore from Time Machine. Everything works fine. However, now the Music app can't find my music files on my external hard disk drive. I have tried the "Consolidate Files" in Music but to no avail. I can manually locate a music file but I have over 7000 music files so this would be too cumbersome for my entire library. I have a mix of both purchased and uploaded from CD music files. I have the correct Music Media folder for my external hard drive specified in Music Preferences Files and I have "Keep Music Media Folder organized" and "Copy files to Music Media Folder when adding to Library", checked. I had this problem once before, years ago, and was able to fix it by doing a global edit on the file paths in the iTunes Library.xml file but that didn't seem to do anything when I tried it this time. Will someone please tell me how to get the Music app to find ALL my music files?

songs not appearing in Music library from external drive My old Mac housed all of my music transferred from CDs and downloaded. The file was pretty massive and I ended up transferring a good portion of it to an external drive. I got a new Mac last year and didn't add any of the music with the intent of solely using the external drive. I've finally gotten around to making sure I can use the drive, but songs don't appear in Music automatically. I've held down the Option key while opening Music to identify the correct drive, and in Preferences I'm using the external drive as the Music Media folder location. I see the music if I open a Finder Window, and if I play a specific song from there it appears in Music. I'm sure there's a way to make the songs visible without playing every one but I'm stuck. Help!

Music library disappeared from app When I opened Music on my Mac Mini it was completely blank. Just as if I had opened the app for the first time. All my music gone. The files are still present on the hard drive. I noticed that the File location in the app was point to a different location. Previously I had Music pointing to my current music folder (which is not default): /[MyProfile]/Music Now it's pointed to: /[MyProfile]/Music/Media I did not change this location to point to the Media folder. Perhaps that is the default location and it's been reset somehow. Going to following tt2's article on restoring the library but has anyone else seen this before? What would cause that?

Select a song, press cmd+i to get info, then look on the file tab to see the location of the source media file.
