AirPods Pro audio output not working when connected to MacBook

I recently bought a pair of AirPods Pro and a MacBook Pro. The pods work perfectly fine on my iPhone 12. They connect seamlessly to the MacBook, but the moment I try to play any audio it just does not play anything. My bf also experiences this with his pods and MacBook.

There isn't a peep when I play any audio.

I did also make sure to check that the audio output has been set to the MacBook.

Please assist me.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.0
