lost files in desktop

My files and folders stored on desktop have disappeared. using Big Sur 11.6 on M1 processor

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive

And they not have disappeared just located elsewhere if Documents and Desktop was Enabled for iCloud.
