What happens when I restore and update my iPhone in recovery mode?

All your current data on the iPhone gets deleted and all the settings are reset to factory. The iOS version gets updated. Finally, you can restore your data again on the iPhone from a backup that you may have created on iCloud or on a computer.

I tried that last-night but I guess the download didn’t happen to to the phone restarting while still connected to laptops.. What other changes can I make? To fully restore the phone
