I am new to using iphones. It's SE 2020. Message icon vanished. When I went to settings I could only get
a reset that would undo all my other settings- it seemed to be linked to transferring to another phone, which obviously doesn't apply. Help, please!

Try scrolling all the way to the right into the App Library.
Once there locate the messages app
Then, long-press on the open are on the screen until the apps jiggle
Move messages to the screen of your choice.

Since it is not possible to delete Apple Messages app, search better if that icon has been inadvertedly moved to a different screen page, or into a folder.
