I have a years old Mid 2007 Mac mini that I’d like to revive: as there’s a few game floating around that won’t work on #Monterey.
Of course, I’m getting the Question Mark/Folder logo at start up: that tells me it’s having trouble find the hard drive
I’ll need an external optical drive to do this, as the main one isn’t working.
Will I need a USB or Firewire optical drive?

I’ve managed to boot the mini from the Install disc: used in an cheaper, external, DVD drive.
I’m going to see if I can get an external hard drive to boot from, as the main drive has definitely gone.
My USB LG Optical Drive allowed me to startup from my original 2006 iMac Tiger disc set and the Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD.
Sadly at that age, I suspect that your 2007 iMac’s hard drive has failed and it might be better to buy a new iMac. Instead of spending money on trying to revive or repair that one.
I suspect you’re right, @den.thed: especially as I couldn’t find the thing when hooked up to my MacPro tower, in Target Disc mode.
Still, I wanted to at least ask, so I give myself an excuse to try.
