does deleting a device backup (iPhone backup) erase the saved content on your mac

I'm trying to free up space on my Mac. One recommendation is to delete old version of my device backups (my previous iPhone backup). Question is, if I delete the old backups that I no longer need, will it delete the content that was saved to my computer (like photos).

Thanks!

It does not.

Deleting the iPhone backup only erases that specific backup file.

Any content that has otherwise been saved to the Mac, or still remains on the iPhone, will remain in its place.
