"Text messages" has two very different meanings:

What is the difference between iMessage and SMS/MMS? - Apple Support

SMS/MMS messages cannot possibly use an email address to be received. So presumably you're talking about iMessages.

Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and be certain it's set up as you wish.
