that depends on which model and year mac you have and what your current macOS is on the mac.
you can check the following resources:
see if you can run monterey > Upgrade to macOS Monterey - Apple Support
if not, you may be able to run an older macOS. you can check your mac compatibility with those (and find the downloads) here > How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support
