Ipad Mini 6 Power Button will not turn off unit

I know how to go settings and turn off my new Ipad mini. But after a week, the power button no longer calls up the on-screen slider switch. I would like that convenience back. Does anyone have the fix for that?

This did not work for me. I tried hi & low volume button independently and together. I also tried the buttons with on/off switch. The slider did not appear. Thanks for trying to help me solve this.
